We offer Chinese Martial Arts, Calligraphy, Taiji as well as Mandarin Chinese classes for all ages and levels.
Chinese as a Heritage Language (CHL)
For students who understand spoken Chinese and have a Mandarin-Chinese speaking environment at home. Speaking Mandarin Chinese at home regularly is considered to be part of this curriculum. CHL class schedule for 2005-2006 School Year: 10:30-12:20am; 2:00-3:50pm.
Chinese As Second Language (CSL)
For students who do NOT have a Mandarin Chinese speaking environment at home nor much Mandarin background. CSL 01 is for students aged 3-5 and CSL 02 is for students aged 6-9 and CSL-04 is for beginner students aged 10 and up . Classroom instructions will be in both English and Chinese. The goal of this class is to help students develop basic skills of listening and speaking Chinese, as well as to motivate them to learn the basic writing of Chinese characters. CSL class schedule: CSL-01: 9:30-11:30 (Chinese+Martial Arts Dance); Tulip Class & Daisy Class
Tulip Class is for toddlers and Daisy Class for 3-4 year olds. Both classes last one hour on Saturdays. They use textbooks and multimedia discs that have English explanation on them and are designed for their age. Children and their caregivers learn the Chinese language and culture throught nursery rhymes, games and lots of singing and dancing. Class Time: 9:30-10:30
Martial Arts, Calligraphy and Adult Taiji
Our Martial Arts Class is for kids 4 and up and taught by a Kungfu professional from China. There will be programs for both boys and girls and students will have opportunities to perform outside school in costumes. The Chinese Calligraphy Class is for kids 5 and up. This class will teach kids how to write Chinese characters with brush and ink. Taiji or Tai Chi, is one of the major types of Chinese martial arts with a history of over 300 years. It is popular among people because it can help build healthy and strong bodies and preent chronic diseases. Our Adult Taiji Class will first teach the 24 Simplified Moves.
Adult Chinese Course*
We offer Modern (Simplified) Chinese courses in different levels to suit individual students' needs.
Conversational Chinese 301: This is an intensive course for beginners who wish to master basic conversational skills fairly quickly. It lays emphasis on listening and speaking and on helping students to acquire the ability to carry on simple conversations in Chinese. Through this course, students learn about 800 new words, 301 basic sentence patterns, the Chinese phonetic system Pinyin, and the fundamentals of Chinese grammar.
Mandarin Chinese 101: In this beginner class, students acquire a basic knowledge of Chinese, learn about 200 Chinese characters, the Pinyin phonetic system, basic grammar, develop skills to understand and speak very simple spoken Chinese.
Mandarin Chinese 102: This is a lower-intermediate class for those who have mastered Mandarin Chinese 101. Students learn how to conduct daily conversations, master about 300 new Chinese characters and more complicated grammar and write brief journals.
* Adult lessons can be arranged to fit the schedule and location of individual student(s). The tuition is $25 per hour for one-on-one lessons and $18 per hour for small group lessons. Please contact us for more information.
